Smt. Gaayathri Raj is a dedicated performer, teacher, and composer with a strong foundation in classical Indian dance. She was born in Kadampanad, Kerala. She began learning classical and folk dance under Guru Nirmala Sudhakar at the Infant Jesus English Medium School in Thuvayur, Kerala. Later, she moved to Delhi in 1992 and joined Sriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra for advanced studies in classical dance. She completed Visharad in Bharatnatyam from Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya, Delhi, studying under renowned gurus like Leela Samson, Sonal Mansingh, and Somnath.
Afterward, she relocated to Bangalore and enrolled at Alliance University for performing arts, under the guidance of gurus such as Dr. Vasant Kiran, Dr. Malyada Anand, Arun Sankar, and Dr. Ramya Suraj. Gaayathri Raj holds a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam from Annamalai University and is also proficient in Kuchipudi.
She is the founder of the performing arts institution “Shivakari School of Dance,” where she teaches various forms of dance, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and other Indian folk and traditional dances. Established in 2008, Shivakari School of Dance currently has 150 students learning under its guidance.
